The aptly named Double Wood was the very first two stage wood finished malt, a process that has been adopted by many other Scotch whisky producers that have followed. Aged in two types of oak barrel, the final months are spent in Oloroso casks - rich and nutty.

The distillery sits beside a giant whirlpool on the Marrket Loch. Inside are 4 rather tall stills which can create a unique mix of whiskies from sweet and mellow to rich and smoky. Perhaps over-shadowed by its near neighbour Islay in terms of whisky production, nevertheless Isle of Jura distillery is producing some extraordinary whiskies. The whisky is generally lighter than its big brothers from the south of Islay, but given time it can rival many other malts if the mature bottlings from the distillery are anything to go by. Aged in ex-Bourbon casks for 10 years, this shows a delicate side to Jura, honey heather and gentle oak.
