Lake Chalice ‘The Raptor’ Sauvignon Blanc

Lake Chalice ‘The Raptor’ Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand 13% ABV Medium-to-full-bodied white wine £16.50 A pale colour white wine, with a hint of green. Fragrant – you really can smell grapefruit and there’s a hint of blackcurrant stopping it being too citrusy which I really appreciated. Gorgeous mouth feel. More full-bodied than a lot of Sauvignon Blancs I’ve had recently, but that isn’t a criticism. Plenty of texture with the grapefruit and blackcurrant flavours coming back to the fore. Pyros Valley de Pedernal Syrah 2016

Pyros Valley de Pedernal Syrah 2016 Argentina 14% ABV Medium-to-full-bodied red wine £21 Elegant ruby red colour, with blackberry and a hint of pine and eucalyptus on the nose. Such an interesting and intense combination. Dark fruits, with vanilla, oak and pepper come to the fore in the mouth and give a lovely warmth which lingers in the mouth alongside that gentle mentholated feeling. Full of intense fruit but lovely and dry with nicely integrated tannins – just how I like it. I loved this wine, both on its own and with a particularly good piece of roast beef, which...
